This is the public record: stock trading games, education experiments, charter school money flowing to family businesses, missed votes while campaigning, debate dodging, abortion credit-grabbing, a soft-on-crime record, and the same old politician games.

I've seen how these numbers get twisted from the inside, and I'm not buying it.

The Stock Trading Game: Millions Undisclosed, Net Worth Jump, and the Hypocrisy

Byron loves to talk tough against congressional insider trading. He says he supports bans. But the records show he and his wife racked up over 100 stock trades in 2022 and 2023 alone, valued at up to $1.6 million. He didn't file the required timely disclosures under the STOCK Act. The Campaign Legal Center filed an ethics complaint. He claims his broker in Naples handles everything with no input from him. Byron Donalds Education Push: IEP for Every Kid Sounds Great Until the Bureaucracy Hits

As someone who taught kindergarten through college (except third grade) and worked with the ESE population, this one sets off every alarm. Byron wants individual learning plans for every Florida student starting in sixth grade to chart their "trajectory toward mastery," with AI and quantum computing as the big force multipliers. Jay Collins and others have called it enormously costly and massively bureaucratic, defeating the whole point of real IEPs for the kids who actually need them.

We've seen the public school mess up close: behavior problems, testing obsession, teacher burnout. Adding another layer of top-down data plans while Byron is out campaigning full time doesn't inspire confidence that he's thinking about the reality of today's classrooms. It smells like more government expansion dressed up as innovation. I'll call it what it is: A MASSIVE MONEY GRAB. Way too much of the money generated for ESE goes to bureaucrats and administrative overhead instead of the kids who actually need it.

This is one of the ugliest. Byron's wife, Erika, runs Optima Foundation and the for-profit companies behind it. Their charter schools pulled in tens of millions in public money. Erika has personal stakes worth at least a million dollars in some of those companies. The Fort Myers Optima Classical Academy enrolled students, hired teachers, made big promises, and never opened. The building is still sitting empty. Parents were left scrambling. This is taxpayer money flowing to connected businesses while a school building goes unused. Byron defends it as smart business. A lot of us call it a massive red flag.

The Abortion Credit Grab: He Wasn't There When DeSantis Passed the Six-Week Ban

Byron has tried to take credit for, or strongly associate himself with, Florida's strict abortion laws. But the six-week ban (Heartbeat Protection Act) was signed into law by Governor Ron DeSantis in April 2023. Byron was already in Congress. He wasn't in the Florida Legislature fighting for it or passing it. When pressed on whether he would have signed the six-week ban, he has sidestepped the question or given vague answers. The Arrogance and Dodging Style I've Seen Firsthand

I've seen Byron on many occasions. He's very arrogant. He dodges more questions than he answers. You ask a simple question, and he'll spend ten minutes talking about things that don't even relate to what you asked. I've watched this happen over and over. He constantly brings up how connected he is to the president. That currently seems to be his main gig. He also tries to take credit for things that DeSantis and others have clearly done and spoken about. He's been missing in action on a lot of the real work while positioning himself as the guy who gets things done. His words and his actions don't always line up.

The Voting Record: More TV and Campaigning Than Actual Work in Congress

Byron is great on cable news and at rallies. But his House record, especially over the last year while running for governor, shows more absences. GovTrack data shows he has missed a higher percentage of votes during his second term. When you're supposed to be representing Southwest Florida but you're already in full campaign mode for the next office, it shows where the real focus is. People notice when the job in Washington takes a backseat to the next promotion.

The Debate Hypocrisy: Rules Rigged for the Guy Already in Office

Byron has used his time in Congress to build name recognition, fundraising power, and establishment connections. Now the Florida GOP has set debate qualification rules, the 10/10/10 thresholds or whatever they are, that only he meets. If Byron had never been a congressman and had to run for governor like everyone else, would he have been able to meet those same thresholds? Probably not. The rules look designed to protect the frontrunner who already has the machine behind him. DeSantis called it out. If he's so far ahead and everyone else is so far beneath him, why hide from an open debate? What is he afraid voters will see when the record gets scrutinized?

The Soft-on-Crime Record: Byron's Criminal Past and His Policies Now

Byron has a criminal past. He was arrested at 18 for marijuana, later acknowledging he dealt small amounts, and at 20 for fraud and larceny. He received pretrial diversion and had the cases expunged. In Florida, he supported raising the felony theft threshold, which critics say makes more thefts misdemeanors instead of felonies, a softer approach to property crime.

In Congress, he has sponsored tough-on-crime bills like the D.C. CRIMES Act to crack down on soft sentencing in the nation's capital.

The Poll Reality: I Don't Trust Polls

Bottom Line

Byron has the name, the endorsement, and the money. But the smellier fish are there in plain sight: stock trading disclosure failures with big personal gain, risky education plans that could bloat bureaucracy, charter school money flowing to family companies while a school sits empty, a threat lawsuit, abortion credit-grabbing he didn't earn, arrogance and question-dodging I've seen firsthand, a soft-on-crime record, more TV time than legislating, debate dodging, and the same old insider rules protecting their guy. Florida deserves real accountability, not another polished politician who talks tough while the record tells a different story.
